Search within a chat

Who can use this feature?

All users

If you are trying to find a message or document sent in a chat you can perform a search within a specific chat.

Tip: find exact matches of your search terms by putting a word or phrase inside quotes.

You can search by:

  • Message

  • Chat title (current and previous)

  • Attachment name

  • Caption

To search within a chat:

On web:

  1. Open the chat you wish to search.

  2. On the right-hand side menu click on the search icon

  3. Type a search term and click enter.

  4. You can navigate your search results by clicking on each result.

  5. Matches will be highlighted as you navigate.

On mobile:

On mobile you can use general search to find a message within a chat. Your results will be ordered by most recent message and you'll be able to see the chat name and sender.

  1. On the chat list screen tap on the search bar (iOS) or on the search icon (Android).

  2. Type a search term and tap Search.

  3. You can navigate your search results by tapping on each result. When you navigate to a search result you will see a preview of the chat. Simply tap on the scroll button or on the view conversation button to see the entire chat.

  4. Matches will be highlighted as you navigate.

  5. You can return to your search results by tapping on Back.
